May kicked off on a high note: my best friend has an annual pass to Legoland, and in March they let you bring a guest for free. The boys had so much fun! I’m hoping to get one myself at the end of the year (I heard they have really good Black Friday deals!).
After that it was a mix of highs and lows. Let’s chat about the highs of the month:
Sprayed: Sun Bum Mini Face Mist
I’ve used Sun Bum’s SPF mist for a couple of years now. So when Target had a buy 3, get 1 free sale (still going!) on minis, I grabbed multiples. I keep one in my bag at all times. It’s so easy to spray on the go and even works over makeup.
Wore: Old Navy Taylor Trousers
If you watched my try-on over on Insta, you might be surprised by this one considering I debated returning them. But I seriously wore them non-stop last month because they are SO comfy. Are they the most flattering pants I own? No. But they feel like lightweight sweats and look way more put together. I’m actually wearing them right now as I type this (ootd linked here):
I’m wearing a size 4 petite here. I’m in between a petite and regular so I think I’m going to buy my next pair in size 4 regular (yes they’re that comfy I’m getting two, especially since they’re 50% off today).
Loved:
How cool is this?! Would make such a great kids’ gift.
Made: Watermelon Popsicles
Ever since we were in Palm Springs, my son has been asking for popsicles. There are a bunch of yummy organic brands out there (GoodPop has been my fave since pre-kids!), but making your own is def less sugar. So that’s what I try to do for my toddler.
I bought these cute popsicle molds. They’re not my favorite for chunky fruit popsicles but great for liquid. After he eats watermelon and leaves leftovers, I simply mash it into the molds, add sprinkles on top, and pop them in the freezer. A few hours later? Instant pink, healthy-ish candy.
Localed: Marlene's Tea & Cakes
My mom and I had a belated Mother’s Day tea at Marlene’s. It’s a local spot she’s been going to for years. So cozy and feminine, inside and out. Last year we had afternoon tea on a velvet couch inside. This year we embraced the sunshine outside in their garden.
And yes, we’re both wearing Somerset dresses and Ray-Ban Erikas. Like daughter, like mother.
Watched: The Secret Life of Pets
Movie night looks a little different these days. But to be honest, some of these kids’ movies are so good! I know it’s from 2016, but I had never seen it before (and now, thanks to my son’s obsession, I can recite it).
If it’s new to you too, it’s about what goes on with pets when their humans are away. Comedians like Kevin Hart, Dana Carvey, and Jenny Slate (love her!) voice the animals. It’s a super cute family movie… especially if you’re a dog or cat lover like us.
*Mom tip: I downloaded it onto my son’s Fire before our flight to Boston. Lifesaver.
Created: Breakfast Board
My parents invited us over on Memorial Day for a BBQ. Since we were getting there in the morning, I wanted to bring breakfast. Enter: the American flag breakfast board. Here’s what I put on mine in case you want to make one for the Fourth:
Blueberries, strawberries, and bananas
Cheese stars (I used these vegetable cutters with sliced cheese)
Salami and prosciutto (rolled into strips)
Brie (cut into strips)
Sliced frittata
Improvised: Kids’ Plate
This was actually from April during our Palm Springs trip, but I never got around to writing my Mom Edition monthly edit. So here’s a quick tip for moms:
If you’re visiting a friend who doesn’t have any child-friendly dishware (Kelly’s are too beautiful to risk my toddler’s hands on), improvise! We used a popover tin (a muffin tin works too) for breakfast boards, snack boards, and taco boards during our visit. Yes, I love myself a good board.

And speaking of not getting to Mom’s monthly edit... this is actually going to be my last Monthly Edit. I’m phasing them out for now and replacing them with weekly small talk every Wednesday. Similar format. Quicker reads. Easier for me. And hopefully you’ll like it better too.
💛, Sydne
That breakfast board is Pinterest worthy and such a fun idea to try for breakfast on July Fourth!
