small talk: court wins, sales strategy & a midyear goal
and how Nemo has been influencing my summer... yes as in the fish
I’m so happy June is over. Honestly, it was my least favorite month since giving birth. So I’m officially calling it a blip in 2025 and moving on.
Today marks the halfway point of the year, and I have one goal for the next six months: rewire my nervous system. But I guess that’s a real talk post for another day. Let’s kick off this halfway-to-2026 hump day with some lighter small talk…
Shopped: Journal pack
For years, friends and therapists have told me to journal. My girl
Well, my life changed (again), so I’m finally committing. Obviously, I needed a whole set of journals, not just one. I went with this 8-pack: super lightweight so I can toss one in my mom bag, ocean blue to remind me of my happy place, and really inexpensive. I clipped my favorite pen (I buy them in bulk too) to each journal and started yesterday.
Applauded: Brooklyn court
With so much depressing news lately, I was thrilled to read something uplifting: Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Aaron Maslow passed a law reclassifying dogs from personal property to immediate family.
It’s about time. Paws crossed courts around the country follow suit.
Realized: Nemo is in his 20s
I watched Finding Nemo for the first time recently with my son... and now we’ve watched it more times than I can count. It really is adorable. Want to know something crazy though? If Nemo was one when the movie came out, he’d be 23 today.
Another mind blowing Elder Millenial moment? My friends and I are all older than Stifler’s mom (thanks for the realization
).Partied: Finding Jack Jack
I hosted a gotcha day party for Jack Jack last weekend. We originally planned a rainbow theme in honor of Pride (anyone remember his colorful roses during lockdown?!). But when I asked Preston’s opinion on the theme he said, no shocker, Nemo.
So I threw together some last minute DIY decor, used the stickers I bought in bulk for Preston’s cast, and served a burger cake on the patio under the sea. Was it picture perfect? Not in the least. But the kids had a blast, Jack Jack loved his burger cake, and I felt pretty good pulling it off solo with five kids (three human, two canine). All about the small wins.
DIYed: tablecloth backdrop
I got the idea for our Finding Jack Jack ocean backdrop from one of my favorite home decor accounts. I had three little humans to watch while decorating, so mine wasn’t nearly as beautiful as hers... but when I have more time, I’m definitely trying it again.
P.S. I keep these $1 disposable tablecloths on hand in almost every color because you never know when you’ll need to throw a last minute party for your kiddo... human or dog.
Added to cart: Amazon faves
Prime Day is July 8. To avoid buying things I don’t need and make sure I save on things I do, I’m sticking to my tried and true 3-step plan:
Identify the sale: ✔️ July 8–10
Add to cart before the sale: ✔️ basically doing restocks (I list my faves in my Amazon storefront)
Smart edit day of: TBD Tuesday
I break down my big sales strategy here if you're curious:
Quoted: My friend (who has two kids) told me this should really be a mom mantra. I couldn’t agree more.
Oh, and sorry I missed last week’s styling sesh. I told you I’m calling June a blip. But we’re still swimming so I’ll see you Saturday for our first July session!
💛, Sydne
