I was on a mission last year to find the perfect white ribbed tank. My requirements?
bra strap friendly
breathable
affordable
not see through
I can’t even remember how many tanks I tried on during my search. But I finally narrowed it down to two faves: Abercrombie ($25) and Old Navy ($9.99 $6). My mom taught me from a very early age when you find something you love, buy it in multiple colors. So that I did.
I used to wear white tanks the most, followed by black. But since moving to a coastal suburb, I find myself reaching for more blues, including navy. Considering the nautical trend is huge this summer, I figured I’d make this week’s styling session about the navy tank I wear nonstop.
My fave part about the minimalist trend is you look chic with very little effort. Tank + wide leg pants + a cardi tied around your shoulders + a few extra gold pieces of jewelry + a low bun = less than five minutes of styling.
p.s. I made it easy to shop each outfit in my Substack ShopMy. You can search by each Styling with Sydne session. Here’s today’s:
Remember that style tip from my mom? Well I applied it to these pants too. I have the Colettes in so many colors, these white ones being my most recent addition (I promise they’re white, I just have some weird blue lighting thing going on in my room recently). For size reference, I’m a 26. But the magic fabric is stretchy. So I’m still able to wear my pre-baby size 25s, like the navy ones below.
One way I’ve been styling my white ones is with something longer on top or tied around my waist. Not because they’re see through, but because mom life often results in me sitting on my son’s snacks. During the summer, I love an oversized button-down worn open as a jacket. Loafers add prep. Beaded necklace adds a playful factor.
San Diego is super chilly in the mornings. I’ve worn this striped sweater we styled earlier on a weekly basis. Later in the day, I’ll throw it over my shoulders with a white tee or my navy tank. The rest of the formula generally stays the same: jeans + white sneakers + some type of baseball cap.
Our styling sessions go deeper after the paywall.
